Quick checklist

Taking a taxi from Arlanda

  1. Follow signs for “Taxi, Approved Taxi”

Swedavia recommends using airport-approved taxis. Contracted taxis are available directly outside the arrivals halls at Terminals 2 and 5.

  2. Ask what the journey will cost before you leave

Confirm the fare or fixed price with the driver. For contracted taxis, Swedavia sets a maximum fare for journeys from Arlanda to addresses within its defined price zone.

  3. Do not accept unsolicited taxi offers inside the arrivals hall

Swedavia says only drivers meeting pre-booked passengers should be inside the arrivals hall. A driver soliciting passengers there does not have an airport contract.

  4. Keep your journey receipt

For a taximeter-equipped taxi, keep the taximeter receipt. It contains information that can help identify the vehicle, taxi company and driver if you leave something behind or need to complain.

Where to find a taxi at Arlanda

Swedavia’s contracted taxis are located directly outside the arrivals halls at Terminal 5 and Terminal 2. Follow the airport signs marked “Taxi, Approved Taxi”.

Swedavia states that taxis are available at Terminals 2 and 5 around the clock. At some times — particularly at night or when demand is high — availability may be more limited, and Swedavia recommends pre-booking for night travel.

You may also see taxis around Terminal 4 or SkyCity. Swedavia warns that these vehicles are likely not to have an airport contract. That distinction matters because the airport’s contracted-taxi price conditions apply to taxis operating under Swedavia’s agreement.

How the taxi system at Arlanda works

Arlanda adds an airport-specific layer to Sweden’s normal taxi system. Taxi companies that pick up passengers through the airport system must have an agreement with Swedavia. The agreement governs access to the airport taxi zones and includes airport-specific requirements.

This does not replace Sweden’s national taxi rules. Licensed taxi companies and drivers still operate under Swedish taxi law, and ordinary Swedish requirements concerning taxi registration, driver identification, price information and taximeters or approved special equipment continue to apply.

The practical difference for an arriving passenger is that Swedavia has an approved-taxi system and a defined maximum-fare zone. That is why the advice at Arlanda is more specific than the general advice elsewhere in Sweden.

Taxi prices from Arlanda

For 2026, Swedavia’s dated maximum-fare specification states that contracted taxis in its relevant price group may charge no more than:

  • SEK 825 including VAT for a car carrying up to 4 passengers, including luggage.
  • SEK 1,300 including VAT for a larger vehicle carrying 5–8 passengers, including luggage.

The maximum applies to a journey from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to one address within Swedavia’s defined geographical zone. Swedavia states that the zone includes, among other places, Stockholm and Uppsala. The airport’s taxi operators are provided with the current zone map.

A maximum fare is a ceiling, not a standard price. A taxi may charge less. Ask the driver what fare applies before the journey begins.

If a journey continues beyond Swedavia’s marked price zone, Swedavia states that the taximeter price applies after the vehicle leaves the zone. Sweden otherwise has free taxi pricing, so check the vehicle’s price information and understand how your journey will be charged. See Taxi Prices in Sweden for the national pricing system and comparison price.

Pre-booked taxis and app bookings

You can pre-book a taxi for pickup at Arlanda. Swedavia specifically recommends pre-booking when travelling from the airport at night because taxis may be in shorter supply at periods of high demand.

A pre-booked pickup is different from accepting an unsolicited offer inside the terminal. Swedavia allows drivers with a pre-booked car to enter the arrivals hall to meet their passenger. If you book in advance or through an app, follow the pickup instructions supplied with that booking and verify the vehicle and driver before getting in.

Arlanda to Stockholm by taxi

A taxi is particularly useful if you want a door-to-door journey, are travelling with substantial luggage, are travelling as a group, have mobility requirements, or your destination is inconvenient to reach by rail or public transport.

For an ordinary arrival, the simplest process is:

  1. Follow signs for Taxi, Approved Taxi.
  2. Use the contracted taxi area outside Terminal 2 or Terminal 5.
  3. Tell the driver your destination.
  4. Confirm the price or charging method before departure.
  5. Keep your journey receipt; for a taximeter-equipped taxi, keep the taximeter receipt offered at the end of the journey.

If you need a larger vehicle, a child seat or other special equipment, contact the taxi host at the airport. If you need a wheelchair-accessible taxi, contact the taxi host outside the terminal, who can call a suitable vehicle.

Taxi or another way to Stockholm?

Taxi is not the only way to travel between Arlanda and central Stockholm. The right choice depends on where you are going, how many people are travelling and how much luggage you have.

  • Arlanda Express: the dedicated airport train takes 18 minutes between Stockholm Central and Arlanda South (Terminals 2, 3 and 4), and 19 minutes to Arlanda North (Terminal 5), according to the operator’s current journey information.
  • SL commuter rail: regular commuter trains connect Arlanda with Stockholm. As checked on 26 September 2026, an adult SL + Arlanda single ticket costs SEK 200 and includes the airport passage.
  • Taxi: offers direct transport to your actual destination. Practical comparison: when several passengers share one vehicle, compare the total taxi fare for the vehicle with the per-person cost of the other transport options.

This guide does not rank one transport mode as universally “best”. For a visitor going directly to a hotel or private address, compare the total cost, travel time and convenience for your particular group.
